Mercedes-Benz The popular line of premiere vehicles of Daimlerchrysler AG, Mercedes Benz features a German brand of cars, trucks, coaches and buses. The line was originally developed for Daimler-Benz AG, established in 1926, a merger of two enterprises: Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie, founded by Karl Benz in 1871. Some people say the Mercedes-benz line was established in response to the economy following World War I. The brand name is recognized as the world’s oldest uninterrupted manufactured automotive line. Mercedes-Benz Branding The original logo for the Mercedes Benz is a star with three points, created by Gottlieb Daimler. The points refer to the main features of the Mercedes Benz product line; i.e. they are for three main uses: the land, sea and air. The very first logo star can be seen on the 1909 DMG. Another component was added to the log called a traditional laurel symbol and was added by Karl Benz when his name was also added. And not until years later in 1937 does the ring design show up on the product Mercedes Benz line. Interesting Mercedes-Benz Facts Some historians mention that during World War II, the Daimler-Benz company exploited over 25,000 laborers who were forced to work and even some prisoners of war, many who did go on to strike and end up residents at concentration camps. In fact, this Daimler-Benz crew was a power horse in the production of the Luftwaffe and war machine after 1941in Nazi Germany. One of the more popular autos cranked out by Mercedes Benz is the infamous limousine line. Their sports cars are well known, too, in particular their ones crafted by Ferdinand Porsche. Another interesting fact is that Mercedes Benz built a car with a rear engine called the 130-H that was not a success. However years later, they went on to help create a very well known line of cars with small rear engine. This well known line of vehicles, although much less in cost and in high production output by Mercedes-benz was the Volkswagen. They created popular Volkswagon prototypes and tested them as well in conjunction with Porsche. Other popular Mercedes-Benz autos include the following line up: 1. In 1936 the 260 D World's first diesel production car 2. In 1938 the W 195 Speed Record-breaker 3. In 1953 the "Ponton" Models 4. In 1954 the 300SL "Gullwing" 5. In 1959 the "Fintail" Models 6.
